Washington

September 17th, 2007

After being in Washington a little longer than the two hours we planned, we finally arrived in San Francisco. I’m not sure in which timezone I’m currently in, but I slept through almost the complete metro ride from Federal Triangle Station to Vienna Fairfax after being awake for more than 24 hours yesterday.

I hope the rest of our vacation will be a little more relaxing. I’ll post a few photos to flickr as soon as I get a chance, but now I need to go and get lunch :)

Update 9/22: Wolfgang posted a little more detail about our flight adventures.

Advertising on flights

August 28th, 2007

It’s good to see that advertising on flights is not only bothering me.

Dan Gillmor: “I suspect I’ll go out of my way not to buy anything from any company that does this kind of advertising.” [via dopplrblog]

And this doesn’t only include low-cost airlines like Ryanair. – At the moment I’m also booking Lufthansa whenever possible to not hear those CAT advertisements before landing in Vienna with Austrian. That’s annoying, but just another reason to fly Lufthansa after Austrian stopped providing free coca-cola and orange juice on their flights.

It’s not that Lufthansa doesn’t have any advertising, but they manage not to cross a certain line. Not that I can say where it is, but I actually like reading through their magazine, which contains quite a few ads :)

Update 8/29: As Franz points out in the comments Austrian only discontinued the free coca-cola and orange juice I pointed out above for several months on short flights within Europe, but has since reconsidered and provides not only said drinks, but also hot meals. – The reason I pointed this out was that for me this represents a pattern of small annoyances that accumulate over time and have an impact on how I perceive their brand.

I sincerely hope they stop promoting products in this way on their flights because the attention the cabin crew gets from passengers should not be misused for selling products.

An IBM intern’s first day

August 5th, 2007

I like NYC a lot, but my stay there was never as interesting as the first day of Mona Lisa Merkert who interns at the Greater IBM Connection:

“After I arrived at JFK International Airport Wednesday evening two weeks ago, I took the taxi to my place in Eastern Brooklyn – one of the famous yellow ones! As the cab driver got lost, it took us about 90 minutes to get there, instead of 30… and as he was so confused and angry about this when we finally got there, he only asked me, if I had a gun (“You will need it in this neighbourhood!”) instead of wishing me a nice stay. Well – welcome to New York City!”

Although I remember looking for the IBM building in San Francisco and it was also not very easy to find ;-)

btw: Always lookup the building you’re looking for including the complete address in your hotel and don’t close your browser window or you’ll have to find a public wireless network or call a colleague. :-)

Berlin

June 13th, 2007

I’ve started posting a few photos from Berlin on Monday and there are more to come.

Brandenburger Tor

Having a day off means I got my first chance today to play with Google Maps’ new street view feature. I even found this cafe in San Francisco again not far from the Hyatt where we had the pleasure of being regulars for a week :-)

If you’re staying at the Hyatt, the Cafe Espresso is definitely a place I can recommend to sit down and have some coffee before you head to the financial district.

Trip to Milano

May 2nd, 2007

Wolfgang blogged about our trip to Milano and posted a few photos.

btw: A6 completion is planned for 4Q07

Stay in Pittsburgh

September 1st, 2006

Seems like my stay here in Pittsburgh is already over and I need to head back to the airport soon. Unfortunately I had worse weather than Philip Hartman while he was in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago.

Coldplay @Arrowhead Pond

February 18th, 2006

I’m still a little bit behind the times it seems, but this is the first time I got the chance to post this. I was at the Coldplay concert at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, CA near LA on 2/6 and it was really great!

There were many people taking photos so I’m a little bit confused that I just found one photo collection on flickr, but maybe I just looked in the wrong place. If there are others, please drop a comment!

In the meantime, please enjoy the collection of photos by Julie Rottinghaus:
