Moving to Lotus Notes 8
March 9th, 2009
I’ve already migrated a few months ago, but I wanted to sum up the issues I faced when moving to 8.0.1 and later to 8.0.2.
The first problem I had was that in the weekly calendar view the page up/down keys were not working like they used to. In the basic client it worked, but in the eclipse-based standard client these keys no longer worked as they did before. This has been reproduced by the Global Account Help Desk, but basically went nowhere. The CIO office then escalated this to development. I haven’t tried to get the SPR number, but I’m hopeful that the right people will look at this.
The second problem was that the calendar footer setting is not sticking. This means that when you close the standard client and don’t have the calendar view open and you relaunch the client and reopen the calendar your calendar view will be back to display the number of the current day even though you selected it to display the number of the current week before. This has been raised as SPR JLAE7JEMCQ.
The final problem I had was with sending S/MIME messages. I was no longer able to add X.509 public keys from a note that I received to my address book, which is required so I can send someone an encrypted message. Great stuff! It turned out – with great support from our Global Account Help Desk – that this was because of an outdated address book design. We completely removed my address book and re-created it from scratch with 8.0.2 and everything went back to normal.
Even though I had quite a few problems I really think this is going in the right direction. I’ve not had a chance to check out 8.5, but I’m not sure if any of my problems have been fixed there. Maybe I’ll give it a chance on my personal MacBook.
OptimizeImagePasteSize
September 24th, 2008
Every once in a while you come across a property you have to set yourself manually and you can only wonder why anyone thought it might be a good idea not to make this the default. OptimizeImagePasteSize is one of these. Fortunately this can be fixed in later versions :-)
btw: After all only a few years have passed between 6.5.4 and 8.5 ;-)
